Walter M. “Bud” Lund, 95, of Marinette, passed away peacefully on May 12, 2019 at his residence at Washington Square Assisted Living in Marinette. Bud was born April 18, 1924 in Peshtigo to Walter A. and Grace (Christeck) Lund. He was the oldest of two sets of twin boys.
He graduated from Peshtigo High School in 1942. He then attended Layton School of Art in Milwaukee until he enlisted in the United States Army, serving in World War II from March of 1943 until February of 1946. He was stationed in the Pacific Theatre and was an amphibian tractor driver. After his discharge, Bud finished a four-year course at Layton School of Art and received a certificate in Advertising Design.
Bud married Dorothy “Dort” (Wickman) on June 25, 1949. They resided in Milwaukee and Wichita, Kansas where Bud was employed at Boeing and eventually landed in Eyota, Minnesota when he started working for IBM in Rochester. He was a graphic designer at IBM from 1956 until his retirement in 1986. Bud was a past-commander of the Eyota American Legion Post. Soon after retirement in 1986, Bud and Dort bought a log house next to Cauldron Falls Reservoir near Crivitz and lived there until Dort’s death in 1998. Bud continued to live there until 2015 when he moved to Washington Square.
He is survived by his children, Deborah Lund of Fall Creek, Oregon, Derek (Patti) Lund of Eyota, Minn. and Renee (Scott) Brandt also of Eyota; his grandchildren, Trey (Kristen) Lund, Mackenzie Lund and Jorgen Brandt; great-grandchildren, Nora, Brooks, August and Everly Lund; his twin brother, Willard; and brother, James.
Bud was preceded in death by his wife; his mother and father; and brother, John “Jack” Lund.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on June 1, 2019 (please note date) at Porterfield Lutheran Church with Pastor Christina Forsythe officiating. Friends may call at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Military rites will follow.
The family would like to thank the staff at Washington Square and Unity Hospice for their dedication, kindness and support.
