Resided in Menominee, MI

Violet Mae (Harris) Bonini, 95 of Menominee, Michigan died on Wednesday, July 26, 2017 at Luther Home in Marinette, Wisconsin. She was the third of four children born to Arthur Harris and Jessie (Ferrier) Harris in Perth, Australia on November 13, 1921. She was preceded in death by her parents, her two brothers (Arthur and Milton), one sister (Amy) and her beloved husband, William.

She is survived by her only daughter, Janet Louise Charbonneau; two grandchildren, Marianne (Albert) Haulk and Joseph Bonaguro; and one great-grandson, Anthony Haulk; and many nieces and nephews both here and back in Australia.

Vi was a loving and passionate woman who always wanted to help others. She dreamed of becoming an RN, but instead became a nurse's aide and moved to the United States in 1945 with her husband and young daughter. As time went by, she became involved in her church and activities such as Legion of Mary and Sewing Groups to help others less fortunate than herself. She was actively involved for several years in Senior Companions.

She loved animals, especially dogs which she had several of over her lifetime. She even spent 15 years working at an animal hospital in Illinois and saved a few by taking them home, where Blossom became her number one.

Vi was creative and was always knitting, crocheting, sewing and making crafts. She was a fabulous baker with a sweet tooth herself. She even dabbled in painting, as she got older. There wasn't a flower she couldn't grow or nurse back to health when Jan or Marianne thought there was no saving it. One of her fondest memories was growing her little garden in Florida and sharing that passion of growing carrots with Anthony when he was a toddler.

Through all of her life, her faith was her cornerstone on which she never waivered. She found great comfort in reading from her prayer book and saying her rosary. May she now find peace and watch over those she loved so dearly.

There will be a private viewing on Wednesday morning for her family. A mass to celebrate her life will be on Wednesday, August 2, 2017, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Menominee at 11:00 a.m. All who knew her are invited to attend this celebration. She will be laid to rest next to her husband, Billy, at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery in Calumet City, Illinois.

A special thanks to Luther Home staff and Hospice for their compassion and care over her last days. Hansen –Onion-Martell funeral home is assisting the family.
