Obituary

Marjorie Anne Wickman died on Tuesday, December 24th at the age of 90. Born Marjorie Anne Morrison on August 5th, l929 in Sudbury, Ontario, she grew up in Menominee, Michigan and enjoyed visits as a child with her beloved aunt and uncle in Charlevoix, Michigan. Marj graduated as valedictorian of the Menominee High School class of l947 while employed at Spies Public Library. She also toured the region as a talented adagio, tap and ballet dancer and taught piano. She graduated from Marinette County Normal and did course work at Oshkosh State Teachers College. Marjorie taught in one room schoolhouses in the Crivitz and Coleman areas. In 1951 she married Donald Wickman, joining him on the family farm in Porterfield. Instrumental in the consolidation of outlying schools in the Marinette district, she served as secretary, librarian and bookkeeper for Porterfield Elementary for nearly three decades.
Marj was the consummate gardener, a gifted baker, talented seamstress, knitter, tatter and award-winning quilter. She took great joy in reading, travel, and her grandchildren.
Marjorie was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Donald, infant son, Dana, parents, Dr. and Mrs. Howard Morrison, sister Jean and brothers James and Charles. She is survived by son David of Porterfield, daughters, Karen Anne (Dale) Hanson of Porterfield and Barbara Wickman (Russell) Jokinen of Brunswick, Georgia, grandchildren Tracy (Jeffry) Erb, Michael (Jennifer) Wickman, Sydney Jokinen (Bradley) Leppert, Erik Jokinen, and Tylor Birch, great-grandchildren Mitchell and Claire Erb and Alissa and Evan Wickman, as well as a brother-in-law, two sisters-in-law, many nieces, nephews and friends.
Visitation will be at Hansen-Onion-Martell funeral home, Marinette, from 2PM until 5PM on Sunday December 29, 2019. Visitation will continue at Porterfield Lutheran Church at 10AM on Monday, December 30th with funeral to follow at 11:00, Pastor Christina Forsythe officiating.
In lieu of flowers a donation may be made to a charity of your choice.
The family is grateful for Marjorie’s many in-home caregivers over the years. The family also thanks Aurora Medical Center - Bay Area for their skillful and compassionate care, and Luther Home where Marjorie truly enjoyed her last days.
