Letty B. Berg, 75, of Marinette, passed away Monday morning, June 22, 2015, at the Meng Residence of Unity Hospice in DePere, Wisconsin. She was born April 30, 1940 in Marinette to Henry and Alma (Schroeder) Rohde.
Letty spent her early life with her family on farms they operated in the Coleman and Porterfield areas. She first attended school in Peshtigo and then graduated from Marinette High School. On March 22, 1962, she married Rodney Berg. They briefly resided in Menominee before settling in Marinette.
Letty had been employed at the Sears Store in Marinette for over 30 years. She later spent 20 years working for Northland Lutheran Retirement Community as a receptionist at Luther Home. Her family was the focus of most of her life and Letty was especially devoted to her grandchildren and sharing in their lives. She was a longtime member of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in Menominee. Letty will be remembered for her unfailing generosity and the selfless manner in which she extended her love and care toward others, especially the elderly.
She is survived by two sons, Mike (Trish) Berg and Jeff (Susan) Berg, both of Pulaski, Wis.; six grandchildren, Jesse, Sami, Joe, Ellen (fiancé, Alex), Kyler and Kevin; her mother-in-law, Leona Berg; brothers and sisters, Ralph Rohde, Burnette (Roy) Marquardt, Jeanette (Duane) Kalm and Betty Ann Shaw; a sister-in-law, Claryce Rohde; and a brother-in-law, John Kirt. She is further survived by brothers and sisters-in-law in the Berg family, David (Kathy) Peot, Chris (Cheri) Berg, Greg (Peg) Berg, Ray (Rosemarie) Kamps, Rita Berg and Sharon (Tom) Neuman; by many nieces and nephews in both families; and by Paul Siebers, whom Letty regarded as another son.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rodney, in June of 1988; by siblings, Cliff Rohde, Larry Rohde and Lou Kirt; and sisters-in-law, Helen Rohde and Mary Rohde; along with additional brothers and sisters-in-law, Einar and Judy Berg, Tom Berg, Beverly Kamps, and Phyllis and Charles Heil.
Friends may call at Hansen-Onion-Martell funeral home in Marinette from 4 until 7 p.m. on Friday, June 26, 2015. Visitation will continue after 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 27th at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in Menominee. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Paul Cole officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Menominee.
A memorial fund has been established for Christ Ev. Lutheran Church and Trinity Lutheran School in Marinette.
The family offers a special thank you to the many friends, family members and well-wishers who supported Letty with cards and visits during her illness.
