Obituary

Kurt D. Konell, Jr., known to his family as “Sonny Boy”, passed away June 1, 2019 on his 80th birthday. After months of battling cancer he died peacefully at his home. Kurt was born June 1, 1939 at home to Kurt Konell, Sr. and Anna Delaet Konell. A lifelong resident of Wagner, he graduated from Wausaukee High School in 1957. After graduation he enlisted in the Air Force and spent his military career in Japan.
Kurt was employed as a truck driver his entire working life and retired in 1993. He married Marie O’Day Mueller in October of 1973 and they enjoyed their retirement years traveling, camping and taking many Canadian fishing trips. Active in his community, he was a Past-Commander of the American Legion Post 150 in Wausaukee. Kurt also was a former Supervisor and served as Board Chairman for the Town of Wagner.
He married Pamela Belland Pansch on May 11, 2019 and she survives along with his sister, Sharon (Roger) Marquardt of Wausaukee; two brothers, Adrian (Linda) Konell and Sidney Konell, both of Porterfield; step-children and many relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marie; a sister, Karen; and step-son, Tom Mueller. Kurt was a compassionate and caring man. He was always willing to give a helping hand to those in need.
Please join us in celebration of Kurt’s life from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. on Saturday morning, June 8, 2019, at Stephenson United Methodist Church in Stephenson, Mich. Services will follow with Pastor Jim Matthews officiating.
Kurt’s family would like to thank the nurses and caregivers from Unity Hospice who gave such loving care to Kurt. He always looked forward to their visits and the support they gave him during his illness.
