Obituary

John P. Wingers, 71, of Marinette, passed away Tuesday, May 29, 2018, at the Oscar Johnson VA Medical Center in Iron Mountain. He was born March 18, 1947 in Milwaukee to Frank and Betty (Coakley) Wingers. John came to Marinette at an early age with his family and attended area parochial schools.
He entered the United States Army in December of 1967, serving duty stations in Korea until his honorable discharge in July of 1969.
Returning to Marinette, John married the former Diana Behrens in 1970. He worked with his father at B & W Auto Body until he was stricken with illness at age 27 and battled MS for the remainder of his life. With the help of his family, John always maintained the mental capacity to cope with his disabilities with dignity and a positive attitude. He spent the last 1 ½ years in the Iron Mountain VA facility where he received exemplary care from one of the highest rated VA Community Centers in the country.
John is survived by his wife, Diana; their son, Jared (Jackie) Wingers; and grandchildren, Levi and Zach, all of Marinette. He is also survived by two brothers, George (Margaret) and Chip (Terri).
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Friends may call at Hansen-Onion-Martell funeral home in Marinette on Saturday, June 2, 2018 from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. Services will follow at 2 p.m. with VA Chaplain Herb Becker officiating and conclude with Military Honors. Private burial will be in the Harmony Cemetery.
