Obituary

Harold K. “Hal” Johnson, of Menominee, Michigan passed away on Tuesday, October 9, 2018. Born in Menominee on March 26, 1926, he was the son of the late Henry and Johanna (Thoney) Johnson. He married Mary Jane Nelson of Marinette on December 2, 1950 at St. Anne’s Church in Menominee.
She survives along with a son, Kenneth James Johnson (Dawn VanLaanen) of Peshtigo; daughters, Julie Ann Johnson of Green Bay, Wis. and Mary Lee (Geoffrey) Sleeman of Rochester Hills, Mich.; four grandchildren, Serenity (Adam) Ruedinger and Ashleigh Johnson of Oshkosh, Wis., Breanne Johnson of Peshtigo and Jake Thoune of Green Bay; and three great-grandchildren, Brooklyn, Korston and Drake. Other survivors include a sister, Joanne (Jack) Anderson of Menominee.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Carl (Marion), Robert (Joanne) and infant, Joseph; and a sister, Evelyn (Bill) Buster.
Harold graduated from Menominee High School in 1944, attended Marquette University in Milwaukee and Jordan Seminary in Menominee. He served on the Menominee Catholic Central and Marquette Diocesan Boards of Education. Harold was a Eucharistic Minister at Resurrection Parish in Menominee and taught CCD and confirmation classes for over 30 years. He was also a member of the Menominee Knights of Columbus Council and the Perpetual Adoration Chapel in Marinette. Harold co-founded and owned ABC Printers in Marinette for many years.
Sports played a big part in Harold’s life, as a participant, coach, umpire and spectator. In his 20’s he had a tryout with the Chicago Cubs.
Visitation will be from 4 until 7 p.m. on Friday, October 12, 2018, at Hansen-Onion-Martell funeral home in Marinette. The Rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. A Mass of Christian Burial for the repose of the soul of Harold Johnson will be celebrated at Resurrection Catholic Church in Menominee on Saturday, October 13th at 11 a.m. with Father Brian Gerber presiding. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Menominee.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Resurrection Parish Food Pantry or Unity Hospice of DePere, WI.
