Harold E. Salzman, 89, of Marinette, passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his family, on Tuesday, September 5, 2017. He was born August 21, 1928 in Marinette to Frank and Jenny (Christeck) Salzman.
He spent his early life on the family farm on Miles Road in Porterfield and was a graduate of Marinette High School. Harold served his country in the Navy for two years before returning to the area. He married the former Amelia Catherine Stichart on May 14, 1949. They were married for nearly 60 years until she preceded him in death on Feb. 6, 2009.
Harold worked for the L.E. Jones Co. before moving to Fond du Lac in 1957 to begin employment with Giddings & Lewis, working there until 1975 when he moved his family back to Marinette. He worked as a foreman at Emerson Electric until his retirement.
As a lifelong outdoorsman, he especially enjoyed working in the woods, cutting timber, and was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Harold is survived by seven children, Sheryll (Russell) Grothe, Edward (Debbie Derber), Catherine (Ron Hallbach) Moon, Daniel (Kay), Heide (Dan Draves) Salzman, Nathan (Patty) and Christina (Vincent) Bournonville; 17 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Robert Salzman.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Michael; a daughter, Cynthia; a brother, Clarence; and two sisters, Joyce and Doris.
The family will hold a private memorial service.
