Obituary

Harold Charles McKenney, 87, of Marinette, Wisconsin, passed away on September 23, 2019 at his home, after battling cancer for many years. He won that battle since there is no cancer in heaven.

Harold was born on April 1, 1932 in West Allis, WI., son of Henry Charles McKenney and Lillian nee Talbot McKenney. He grew up in Green Bay, Wi., and then Menominee, Mi. He attended Menominee High School. At the age of 17, he enlisted in the U.S. Army. He served during the Korean War as a supply specialist for the officers and their families stationed in Saporo, Japan. He was honorably discharged in 1952.

On May 2, 1953 he married Della Mae Zorn at the parsonage of Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church in Marinette. They recently celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary. Although he had many occupations throughout his life, the majority of his work was in manufacturing. Besides fishing, his great love was entertaining family, friends, and area nursing home residents with his music on the guitar, harmonica, and accordion. In 2016, Harold participated in an Honor Flight to Washington D.C.

Besides his wife Della, he is survived by sons, Rodney (Nancy) of Appleton, Dennis (Sara) of Marinette, Bruce (Lois) of Lake Mills, Ronald (special friend Kathy) of Marinette, Brian (Beth) of Marinette, and his daughter-in-law in Ft. Atkinson, Kim McKenney.

He is also survived by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is further survived by three sisters Marlene Kopacz of Milwaukee, WI, Peggy Harsvick of Superior, WI., and Judy Schei of Menominee, Mi.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers: Clifford, William, Ronald, Alvin, and four sisters: Eunice, Evelyn, Dorothy, and Patricia, one son, Kevin McKenney, and daughter-in-law Birdie McKenney.

A Christian Funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 28, 2019 at 11 am at Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church in Marinette. There will be a public visitation on Friday, September 27, 2019 from 4-8 pm at the Hansen-Onion-Martell Funeral Home in Marinette and on Saturday morning at 10 am at the church until the time of the service. Burial with Military Rites will be at Glenwood Memorial Gardens, W1170 Co Rd. B in Marinette.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Unity Hospice, the Marinette rescue squad, or the Honor Flight Network.

Harold’s family would like to acknowledge and thank Unity Hospice and its nurses for the loving care that Harold received in his finals days.
