Obituary

Gerald N. Socha, 76, of Marinette, passed away Tuesday, May 28, 2019, at his home, surrounded by family after a long battle with bone cancer. He was born August 16, 1942 in Pulaski, Wisconsin to Ervin and Irene Socha. At a young age his family moved to Milwaukee where he spent his early life. Gerald attended South Division High School in Milwaukee.
In 1959 he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps at the age of 17, for a four year term and re-enlisted in 1963 for a 6 year term, serving twice in the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged in 1968. Gerald received many commendations for his dedication and bravery. His discipline and patriotism that he learned in the Corps never left him, and family and friends will attest to that. Gerald earned several medals, a silver star, and a civil action unit citation.
On February 14, 1970, Gerald married the former Sandra Kosewski. In 1971 they moved to her hometown of Wallace, Michigan, and then came to Marinette in 1974, residing in this area since that time. Sandra preceded him in death on December 2, 2010. Gerald worked at The Ansul Company until his retirement. Gerald took pride in his work and work ethic, and his attention to detail is legendary. Gerald enjoyed photography, painting, building model cars, doing puzzles, and going to Brewers games with his boys. He was dedicated to church and faith, and his love for his family was unconditional. His love for his grandchildren was his pride and joy in life, and he also enjoyed polka music and dancing.

He is survived by two sons, Scott Socha and Randal (Kerri) Socha, both of Marinette; 4 grandchildren, CeeJay, Chloe, Camryn and Callen; a brother, Mike (Soledad) Socha; 2 sisters, Karen Socha and Mary (Mike) Beaudry; and a sister-in-law, Alice Socha.
In addition to his parents and wife; he was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Gary and Norbert Socha.
A Funeral Mass will be offered at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 3, 2019, at Holy Family Parish-Our Lady of Lourdes Church on Taylor St. with the Reverend Celestine Byekwaso officiating. Visitation will be at the church from 10 a.m. Monday until the time of the Mass. Hansen-Onion-Martell Funeral Home is assisting the family.
