Resided in Porterfield, WI

Donald Roger Borths, 78, of Porterfield, passed away peacefully with his wife, Cathy, at his side at St. Vincent Hospital on January 12, 2015, after a courageous 105 day battle. Don was born on August 9, 1936 in the Town of Grover to Alfred and Anna Borths.
Don graduated from Marinette High School and enlisted in the United States Army. After an honorable discharge, he worked at Thompson Boat and then for 40 years at Badger Paper Mills, retiring in 1996.
He married his wife, Cathy, on October 23, 1986, in Irondequoit, N.Y. Don loved carpentry, often remodeling homes for people in need. He custom made furniture for the Red Apple Gift Shop in Crivitz, filling orders for people across the USA.
Don enjoyed snowmobiling, fishing, vacationing in Kentucky and Tennessee, but especially riding "Johnny", his John Deere tractor. He loved metal detecting around Petoskey and Mackinac, Michigan, and took pride in finding the owners of class rings and jewelry that he found. Don was a gentle and kind spirit. He took pride in working at and raising money for food pantries and did random acts of kindness each and every day.
Don is survived by his wife, Catherine; a brother, Lyle (Carol) Borths and their children, Mike and Jeff; a brother-in-law, Leo (Gigi) of Palm Beach, Fla.; sisters-in-law, Mary Williams of Peach Tree City, Ga. and Patricia Miorelli of Gatlinburg, Tenn.
Don was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Marvin.
Friends may call at Hansen-Onion-Martell funeral home in Marinette on Wednesday, January 21, 2015, from 4 until 7 p.m. A memorial service will follow. Friends are invited to share special moments with Don.
