Resided in Marinette, Wisconsin

Carol Hellermann passed away peacefully, with family present, on Wednesday September 27, 2017.

Born Carol Ida Gruman, on October 12, 1926, she was married for 60 years to Erwin M. Hellermann who preceded her in death in 2008. She is survived by her seven children; Susan Murray (Dan), Holly Wolfe (Ross), Mark (Lisa), Kurt (Jennifer), Matthew, John (Connie), and Luke (Giza). Also, 13 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband Erv, Carol was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Edward, and grand-daughter Chamomile.

Carol was a lifelong resident of Marinette, born to Ella (Schmidt) and Edward Sr. and raised on Hosmer Street with her brother Edward. She graduated as valedictorian from Marinette High School in 1944. After high school, Carol served her country by working for the Pentagon and after the war she worked for the Ansul Company in Marinette. While working at Ansul she was a strong advocate for the right of women to work after marriage and when pregnant. She met her future husband Erwin (Erv) in 1946 and after a whirlwind romance they married and lived in Porterfield, along the Menominee River for five years before moving back to Marinette.

Carol always wanted a large family. She and Erv were loving and generous parents who were happiest when their children were happy. Carol was active with her children and friends in many social and family activities. She was a dynamic member of the Ladies Aid, choir, and other groups at Trinity Lutheran church and school.

She enjoyed singing and dancing, playing the piano and humstrum, bridge, golf, and other winter and summer sports. She and Erv enjoyed traveling (Hawaii, Alaska, Europe, the Mideast, and all over the U.S.), and after retirement they spent many winters at their condo in Marco Island, Florida. Music was something that always brought pleasure to Carol. Even into her ‘80’s she loved to play the piano, and at family gatherings outlasted her kids and grandkids on the dance floor. Long after her words were gone - the music remained.

She will be dearly missed by all of those who have been touched by her warmth, tenderness and trust over the years.

The funeral will be held on Sunday, October 8, 2017, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1501 Thomas Street, Marinette, WI 54143.
