Obituary

Betty P. Over, 87, of Marinette, passed away on April 25, 2019 after suffering a stroke on April 13th. She was enjoying life to the fullest here in her adopted home in northern Wisconsin and will be greatly missed. Betty was born April 30, 1931 in Wetumka, Oklahoma to Jerome and Lois (McAlvain) Pugh.
After working in the town café and theatre in her teen years, Betty hopped a train to Washington, D.C. and worked in the Fingerprint Catalog Dept. of the FBI. She met her husband, John J. Over, Jr. (Jack) when they lived in neighboring apartment buildings. When Jack was sent to the Philippines with the U.S. Navy, Betty went along and they spent what they always called their 2-year honeymoon exploring the Far East. Returning to the Washington, D.C. area they settled down and raised their three children. Betty and Jack retired to Albuquerque, N.M. and Edmond, Okla., moving to Wisconsin in 2017 to be near family. Aside from being the most popular Mom on the block, Betty was an accomplished seamstress, quilter and weaver. She relished watching the wildlife outside her dining room window and loved “thrifting” in the area.
Betty is survived by her husband of nearly 65 years, Jack; three children, Jana (David Harrington) Over of University Park, Md., John J. (Sandy) Over III of Edmond, Okla. and Andrea (Brian) Maxwell of Marinette; six grandchildren, Chris, Laura, Hayley, Rosemary, Jeff and Joe; and one great-grandson, John IV. Per Betty’s wishes, no formal service will be held. Memorial may be directed to the Quilter’s Hall of Fame, 926 S. Washington St., Marion, IN 46953 or Bay Area Medical Center Foundation in Marinette.
