Barbara Annette (Johnson) Miller, 74, of Marinette, passed away peacefully Wednesday afternoon, October 18, 2017, at Bay Area Medical Center, surrounded by her family. She was born April 22, 1943 in Charleston, South Carolina to Alvin and Florence (Heck) Johnson.
She lived in Minneapolis, Minn. from 1961 to 1970, then moved to Marinette to reside. While in Minneapolis, she attended Augsburg Lutheran College from 1961 to 1964, studying English, Art and Biology. Barbara married Dan Miller of Marinette on November 30, 1985. She was a caring and devoted mother to her children, Anton Alvin Bommersbach and Barbara Ann (Bommersbach) Karnopp.
Barb’s work career included employment with Avon Corporation, as a Social Worker with Social Services, a Pharmacist Assistant at Lundgren’s Pharmacy, an Executive Assistant at Lutheran Brotherhood, a Marketing Specialist and Corporate Treasurer-Secretary at The Ansul Co. and as part of the Advertising Department at the EagleHerald.
As a longtime Marinette resident, she was an active member of First Trinity Lutheran Church where she sang with the choir, played piano for Sunday School, Junior Choir and special occasions and taught Sunday School for 35-plus years. She was also a member of ARTWORKS, a local group of artists meeting to discuss current art topics, and a member of Marinette Business Woman’s Organization. Barb enjoyed traveling, motor cycle riding, music, dancing with her husband, horseback riding, painting and playing the piano.
Barb is survived by her husband, Dan; her two children, Anton (Pam) Bommersbach and Barb (Paul) Karnopp; three step-children, Kelly (Tim) (Miller) Paidl, Eric Miller (fiancé, Jessy Drum) and Adam (Crystal) Miller; and is further survived by fourteen beautiful grandchildren, whom she greatly loved. They include Amanda, Kaleb, Tug and Lauren, children of Kelly and Tim Paidl; Christian and Abigail, children of Eric Miller (fiancé, Jessy Drum); Cassandra, Alyssa and Brianna, children of Adam and Crystal Miller; Ryan and Erin, children of Anton and Pam Bommersbach; and Alex, Rebecca and Andrew, children of Barbara and Paul Karnopp. She is also survived by many other family members, friends and neighbors who loved her. She was a special woman to all who knew her and will be greatly missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Alvin and Florence Johnson; and a sister, Marilyn (Johnson) Martin.
Visitation will be at First Trinity Lutheran Church, Wells St. at Grant, on Sunday, October 22, 2017, from 1 until 4 p.m. A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m., the Rev. Christian Eisenbeis officiating with a meal to follow.

The family would like to extend their warmest thanks to the Nursing Staff and Doctors of BAMC. Their concerns, compassion and professional services during Barb’s stay were pristine. The compassion and caring they displayed for Barb’s husband, Dan, and family will remain in our hearts forever.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests any monetary gifts in memory of Barb be made to Rainbow House or Bay Area Pregnancy Services, Inc.
