Obituary

He hung up his hammer years ago, the Packers continue to play without their armchair coach, someone else sits in his pew at church, camping parks are a bit lonelier without his friendly, wandering speaking tours, the trees can push down deeper roots since the old chain saw has an empty fuel chamber and it never leaves the woodshed anymore, deer camp goes on but there’s an empty sheepshead chair with his name on it, the walleye and perch which knew the bottom of that old Alumacraft well are chasing other hooks and lures, and every crow in Marinette County can now perch a wire, no longer in his 410 sights. Martin E. (Junior) Vieth left his things behind, gave us all farewell and took his many skills, Marine demeanor and handyman talents to heaven on Monday, October 2, 2017 surrounded by family. He leaves behind an empty dog coop, a garage and woodshed that miss him, and a silence that was always filled with the sound of his busyness and his words.

Marty died after a battle with multiple illnesses: heart disease, stroke and maladies of advancing age. Through it all he had risen above each physical challenge until finally his heart wore out and took the bench for good. He knew it was time to put his hammer and saw, guns and rods, axes and wedges, dog leashes and garden tractors, hymnbooks and Bibles, and hardest of all, family, behind him and move on down the river of time into eternity.

Martin (Marty-Junior) was born on March 22, 1928 in Marinette, WI. He and his wife Jean raised a family of three in a house along the Menominee River he and his father-in-law built in 1956. He touched many lives over the course of his 89 years and leaves behind his wife of 61 years, Jean (nee Schroeder) Vieth, three children: Daughter Holly D. (Vieth) Brunner (Mark), Sons, David M. Vieth (Jane), and Kevin C. Vieth (Julie). Marty also leaves behind his sister Lois Warman (Marinette). He was preceded in death by his parents: Martin E. Sr. and Carol Vieth. Marty was a grandpa and great grandpa. His towering frame and “Stand Firm!” admonition will long be remembered by 7 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Marty also leaves behind nephews and nieces, friends and especially acquaintances from his many fireside chats and chance encounters at funerals, weddings, sporting events, and church socials. A lifetime member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Marinette, Marty was baptized, confirmed and married there. He will be buried from Trinity on Thursday, October 5th with visitation beginning at 11:30 a.m. followed by a service at 1:00 p.m. officiated by Pastor Jon Tesch. Burial will follow after the service at Forest Home Cemetery in Marinette. Following burial there will be a luncheon at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church and School in Marinette.
