Obituary

Heaven has gained a special angel with the passing of Helen Marie Wright (née Berg). Helen passed away on Good Friday, April 14, 2017 in Marinette, Wi., surrounded by family. She was 96 years old.
Helen was born at home in Wagner Township on March 24, 1921 to Carl and Emma (Blockhus) Berg.
She was a 1939 graduate of Marinette High School, and a 1941 graduate of Marinette County Normal earning a teaching degree. She taught grades 1-8 for 6 years at Chapman, Wood, and Goll one room schools.
Helen married Edwin J. Wright in 1944. They lived at and farmed Jil-Heed Farm in McAllister all of their married lives.
In 1970 she earned a Bachelor's Degree from Northern Michigan University in Marquette, Mi. She taught 1st grade for 20 years in the Wausaukee School District retiring in 1986.
A member of St. Edward's Catholic Church, Helen was the organist, taught religious education, and was involved in Christian Mothers. She also taught cooking and sewing lessons as a 4-H leader, was involved in PTA, Homemakers, Friends of the Library, and served as treasurer for Wagner Township.
Helen was an avid reader who enjoyed gardening, quilting, bird watching, golfing on a ladies' league, playing the piano and organ, singing with Brenda Meyhoff, and many visits from Kevin Lynch, Marlys Limberg, and other friends.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband Edwin Wright, daughter Denise Wright, parents Carl and Emma Berg, siblings and their spouses: Myrtle (Don) Nettleton, Clarice (Lloyd) Sebero, Edwin (Sophie) Berg, Lloyd (Dorothy) Berg, and Kenneth Berg.
She is survived by her daughters: Jill Leslie, Debbi (Mike) Holmes, Rochelle "Shelley" Wright, Jacki (Bill) Hass, Patti (John) Hollis, Janine (Don) Squier. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren: Jeff Leslie, Perry Leslie, Jeremy Holmes, Josh (Alice) Holmes, Jordan (Dan) Appel, Jared (Kelli) Holmes, Chris (Tanya) Hass, Brianne (Andy) Lange, Brooke Hass (friend Tony Perez), and Adam (Leanne) Hass. In addition are 11 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.
Helen was the consummate teacher – teaching to the end, by example, gracious acceptance. She will be remembered for her strong sense of family, love of teaching, importance of being an active participant in church and community, and her strong "determination" in all things.
Visitation will be at Hansen-Onion-Martell funeral home on Friday, April 28, 2017 from 4 until 7 p.m. followed by a prayer service from 7-7:30 p.m. A funeral mass is scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 29th, at SS Joseph and Edward Catholic Church, County Hwy. G, Porterfield WI., 54159. There will be visitation in the church gathering area prior to the mass from 10:00-10:50 a.m.
A lunch will be served in the church hall following the service.
