Bernard Ronald "Bernie" Becker, 85, passed away on Tuesday, November 11, 2014, at NewCare Convalescent Center in Crivitz. He was born January 27, 1929 in Freeport, Ill. to the late Bert and Ada (Huls) Becker.
On October 8, 1977, Bernie married Bette Kittson at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Menominee, Mich. He enjoyed the Packers and liked making stools for the great-grandchildren. He also watched the birds and squirrels, enjoyed going to the Junction City Fireman's Picnic and watching westerns on TV, which he called the "idiot box".
Bernie served in the Navy at the end of World War II. He farmed, worked at Barber Coleman in Rockford, Ill., Harback Meat Processors in Freeport and Plainfield Trucking, Plainfield, Wis. For about 27 years he drove for Ruan Transport of Wisconsin Rapids and after retirement drove the bus for Marinette County Elderly Services. He and Bette moved from Junction City to Peshtigo in 1993. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church of Marinette.
Bernie is survived by his wife, Bette; a son, James of Novato, Calif.; daughters, Kathy Langston of California, Cindy Becker of Freeport, Ill. and Patricia (Ike) Iberg of New Philadelphia, Ohio; one step-daughter, Carol (Charles) Acha-Morfaw; 10 grandchildren, Lisa (Doug) Kilner of Antelope, Calif., Daniel Langston, Jr. of California, Keitra Becker of Peshtigo, Korey (Joelle) Becker of Baraboo, Wis., Jeff (Amy) Sierra of Freeport, Ill., Pase (Eryka) Lupeamanu of Rockford, Ill.; step-grandchildren, Lisa (Kristian) Ahrens, Jason (Heather) Turner, Amie Turner and Tyler Acha-Morfaw; great-grandchildren, Morgan and Hannah Winslow of Peshtigo, Claire and Braydon Becker of Baraboo, Sean, Devon, Samantha and Brayden Sierra of Freeport, Zachery, Jordan and Logan Lupeamanu of Rockford; step-great-grandchildren, Ariana, Kristian, Jr. and Peyton Ahrens, and Rajeanne, Tresa, Dylan and John Turner; one sister, Audrey Seeley of Rockford, Ill.; one sister-in-law, Wanda Becker; and a brother-in-law, Roger (Darlene) Kittson.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Albert, George (Eleanor) and Joseph Becker; one sister, Beatrice Earnest; one granddaughter, Gina Langston; one step-grandson, Bryan Turner; sisters and brothers-in-law, Barbara Kittson Gruel and Dale Gruel; and mother-in-law, Bernice Kittson.
Friends may call at Faith Lutheran Church, corner of Irving St. and County Hwy T in Marinette from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 22, 2014. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Jeffery Teeple officiating. Burial will be in Glenwood Memorial Gardens.
