Winifred L. Hansen, 87, of 1141 Garfield Ave., Marinette, passed away Sunday morning, January 24, 2010 at Renaissance Assisted Living in Marinette. She was born April 24, 1922 in Menominee to John and Anna (Paulsen) Roscoe.
She spent her early life in Menominee and was a graduate of Menominee High School, Class of 1940. Winifred was known for her years leading the Menominee band as drum major. After graduation she worked a number of years as a stenographer at the former Superior Sugar Refining Co. in Menominee.
On July 19, 1947, she married George H. Hansen, Jr. of Marinette. They spent nearly 61 years of married life together until his death on June 10, 2008. Winifred was a deeply devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She also was an avid reader and sports enthusiast. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church of Marinette.
Winifred is survived by two daughters, Barbara (Bruce) Peterson of Mason, Ohio and Janis (Steve) Olsen of Marinette; and four grandchildren, Laura (Kyle) Nelson, Michelle Olsen (Nate Mayer), Kristen Peterson and Linda Peterson. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and a grandson, John Wilfred Peterson.
Friends may call at Hansen-Onion-Martell funeral home, Marinette, after 11 a.m. on Wednesday, January 27, 2010. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday in the funeral home with the Rev. Keith A. Kolstad officiating. Entombment will be in Forest Home Mausoleum.
