John Louis Stadler, Jr., 66, of Marinette, passed away at home with his family by his side on Friday afternoon, February 12, 2010, after a courageous 7 month battle with cancer. He was born September 16, 1943 in Mount Clemens, Michigan to John Louis Stadler, Sr. and Verna Trost Stadler.
John spent his early life in Mount Clemens where he graduated from high school in 1961. He later attended Michigan Technological University in Houghton for several years. He married the former Shirley Morgan on June 11, 1966. John worked as a meat cutter before entering the United States Army, serving in the Vietnam War. He later began employment with the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture as a compliance supervisor, residing in Hillsdale and Grandville, Michigan and the Raleigh, N.C. area. He then retired and returned to Marinette. He loved fishing and helping his family in his spare time.
John is survived by his wife, Shirley; two children, John Louis Stadler III (wife, Suzanne) of Sand Lake, Mich. and Paula Stadler Owens of Marinette; four grandchildren, Tyler Stadler, Sabrina Stadler and Morgan and Gabrielle Owens; and one sister, Linda K. Stadler of Macomb, Mich. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Kathleen.
Friends may call at Hansen-Onion-Martell funeral home, Marinette, after 3 p.m. on Wednesday, February 17, 2010. A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. on Wednesday in the funeral home with the Rev. David Selness officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested for the American Cancer Society or Unity Hospice.
