Marvin A. Miller, (Marvelous Marv), 73, of Marinette, passed away at home on Wednesday, February 24, 2010, surrounded by his loving family following a courageous two-year battle with colon cancer. He was born on January 19, 1937 to the late Carl and Ruth (Olson) Miller.
Marvin married the former Magdalene “Mag” Dura on Nov. 30, 1957 in Marinette and celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2007. Marvin attended Marinette High School and played football and baseball. After high school Marvin joined the National Guard where he was a three year member.
Marvin worked at Scott Paper Co. in Marinette for 36 years; retiring as a millwright in 1994. Marvin was a proud member of the Marinette Moose Lodge and enjoyed camping, bowling, dart ball and most of all, he enjoyed his woodworking skills. Marvin excelled at numerous wood projects that he made for family and friends. One of his greatest joys was giving his projects away and the happiness it brought to the recipient.
Marvin is survived by his wife, Mag; two daughters, Mary (Jim) Van Beek of Crivitz and Michelle (Mike) Salfai of Peshtigo; a son, Mark of Marinette; a daughter-in-law, Sue Hammond of Marinette; a sister, Sally (Roger) Schewe of Porterfield; a sister-in-law, Shirley Miller of Marinette; 7 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; his mother and father-in-law, Jake and Mary Dura of Peshtigo along with his special canine friend and faithful companion, Cuddles.
Marvin was preceded in death by a son, Marvin, in 1999; a brother, Bob; his parents, Carl and Ruth; and a niece, Suzie Schewe.
Friends may call at Hansen-Onion-Martell funeral home, Marinette, from 4 until 8 p.m. on Friday, February 26, 2010. Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday in the funeral home with Unity Hospice Chaplain Karen Anne Hanson officiating. Burial will be in Forest Home Cemetery.
