Hazel G. McClain, 86, of Marinette, passed away Thursday, January 7, 2010, at Rennes Health Center-East in Peshtigo. She was born February 4, 1923 in the Town of Porterfield to Charles and Lydia (Race) Johnston.
Hazel married John S. McClain, Sr. and lived on Rehms Rd. in the Town of Peshtigo for many years. She was a homemaker for most of her life and devoted her time to the care of her family. Hazel was loved and respected by many area people. Her husband, John, preceded her in death on Feb. 23, 1991.
She was a founding member of the Foursquare Gospel Church, remaining a member there until the church closed. She was more recently a member of the Pentecostal Apostolic Church of Peshtigo.
Hazel is survived by eleven children, John (Joan) McClain, Jr., Hazel Cloutier (friend Rod Spice), Shirley (Robert) Brown, Ed (Cathy) McClain, Susan Miller, Louis (Sherry) McClain, Paul (Rhonda) McClain, Sandy (Carl) Marotz, Mary (Tom) Mitchell, David (Sandy) McClain and Alvin (Kim) McClain; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and great-great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Elsie (Gordon) Fralick; four brothers, Charles (Dorothy) Johnston, James (Lois) Johnston, Everette (Bev) Johnston and William (Pat) Johnston; two sisters-in-law, Angeline Johnston and Donna Johnston; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Edward and Henry Johnston; sons-in-law, Earl Glover, Wilfred Cloutier and Vernon Miller; a daughter-in-law, Paula McClain; and three grandsons, Billy McClain, Eric Glover and Danny Brown.
Friends may call at Hansen-Onion-Martell funeral home, Marinette, after 2 p.m. on Monday, January 11, 2010. Funeral services will be held at 5 p.m. on Monday in the funeral home with the Rev. Dale Welch officiating. A funeral dinner will be held following the service at Pentecostal Apostolic Church, 171 S. Beebe Ave., Peshtigo. Burial will be in Glenwood Memorial Gardens.
