Norman W. Mumpy

Norman W. Mumpy, age 82, passed away Saturday, October 1, 2011 at Rennes Health and Rehab Center in DePere, Wisconsin.

Norman was born in 1929 in Marinette, Wisconsin, son of the late Herman and Lydia Mumpy. He was a member of and confirmed in the First Evangelical and Reformed Church in Porterfield, Wisconsin. He attended Marinette High School and graduated with the class of 1947.

He married his high school sweetheart, Shirley Ann Peanosky on January 14, 1950. They had four daughters--Vicki, Deborah, Leanne Joy and Cheryl. Norman and Shirley spent many happy years together raising their family and traveling extensively around the United States. They especially enjoy boating on their boat, Shirl Ann II.

Norman was employed by the Chicago and Northwestern Railway. After 42 years of employment with the railway, he retired in February, 1991. Mr. Mumpy served the community for many years through the Transportation Club, Rotary, the Oddfellows, and the Town of Peshtigo Volunteer Fire Department.

Norman enjoyed many hobbies including coin and rock collecting, carpentry, collecting antiques, and spending time in the woods at his northern Wisconsin cabin, as well as in the deserts of Arizona.

Survivors include four daughters and their husbands: Vicki and Mark Minsloff of Green Bay, Wisconsin; Deborah and Peter Mader of Two Rivers, Wisconsin; Leanne Mumpy and Bill Gulley of Bellvue, Colorado, Cheryl and Jeff Lamont of Grafton, Wisconsin.. He is also survived by his six grandchildren, Morgan Lamont, Sarah Minsloff, Jennifer Lamont, Christopher Mader, Avalon Gulley and Lincoln Gulley. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Lydia Mumpy; and his wife, Shirley Mumpy.

Friends may call at Hansen-Onion-Martell funeral home, Marinette, from 4 until 7 p.m. on Friday, October 7, 2011. Funeral services will be held at Peace United Church of Christ in Marinette at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 8th. The Rev. William Clyma will officiate. Burial will be in Forest Home Cemetery.

The family wishes to thank the wonderful caregivers at the Renaissance Assisted Living facility in Marinette and at the Rennes Health and Rehab Center in DePere, Wisconsin.
